Kenneth J. Norkus USN, WWII PO 2nd class

Of Bladen County, NC, with his brother, Col. Peter Robeson, led a band of Militia in the Battles of Elizabethtown and Moores Creek. Had his home burned by the British. Paid his men from his own funds and had Robeson County, NC named in his honor.

Served in France during WWI as a courier delivering messages via mule or bicycle. Was on a train headed for the front lines on Armistice Day and heard the bells ringing in all of the towns.

In World War II, he patrolled the barrier islands of Georgia and operated a radio communications base in Alaska.
